Digital Mosaic: Clownfish
For this project, everyone chose a 4x4 square of a piece of a picture that had to be recreated. Adobe Illustrator was the only program used, and we had to free-hand a drawing of what we saw in the square. A critical concept to keep in mind was proportion; the proportion of the drawing in the square had to match up with the other surrounding squares. Personally, I found that creating the blue ruler guides were very helpful with maintaining correct proportion. Additionally, we had to match the colors we saw in the paper square with the square we created in Illustrator. Finally, to achieve realistic colors, we used gradients, meshes, and blends. These three tools in Illustrator allowed for the colors on the paper square to be as accurate to the Illustrator square as possible.
