Haunted Hammonton High School
This project was initially started around Halloween. With that being said, the main objective for this project was to create a scary-looking picture from a picture of a mundane school environment. The pictures were taken from the server (courtesy of Mrs. T). A major goal of this project was working in multiple layers to make the new image look as realistic as possible. To achieve this, we learned about Photoshop actions. An action is a recorded set of steps that can be played back on any image. We followed a tutorial of our choice (I chose the ghosting tutorial), recorded the actions, and played them back to achieve the desired effect. Blending modes and alterations to opacity were key effects used to enhance the quality of the picture. Gradients also helped in doing this as well. Layer styles (for example, drop shadows) helped to make the picture very eerie and Halloween-ish. Drop shadows also made the picture look realistic because it gave depth to the person or thing in it. The hue and saturation adjustments allowed for changing the colors of an object to make it look spooky; for example, if there was a picture with a witch's cauldron in it, hue/saturation could be used to change the color of the wall to reflect the light emitted by said cauldron. Filters also made the picture look haunted because they were mostly grayscale filters; these types of filters gave the image a sinister feeling. Brushes were used mainly with zombie projects, but they were important nonetheless. We downloaded brushes of scars, scabs, etc. to use on the images to make them look like truly decaying zombies. Masks and selections were used mainly when silhouetting images. Selection tools were used to silhouette images (mainly for ghosting), and masks were used to ghost certain parts of the picture to make it less blurred.
